'Abusive' was the Allied designation for the retirement from operational service of war-weary and therefore expendable aircraft, which were thus made available to be stripped of armament and other useful equipment and then loaded with a large explosive charge and fitted with remote-control equipment for use as guided missiles in programmes such as 'Aphrodite' (ii) (1944/45).
