'Abwehrschlacht' (i) was the German redeployment of elements of General Hellmuth Felmy’s Luftflotte II and General Hugo Sperrle’s Luftflotte III from Poland toward the Western Front, starting before the end of the 'Weiss' (i) conquest of western Poland, in preparation for the possibility of active hostilities with France (September 1939).
