Operation Alfred (i)

'Alfred' (i) was a German naval undertaking to lay a minefield in the Strait of Dover using the torpedo boats Iltis and Jaguar (29/30 October 1940).

In the period immediately following this undertaking, the British recovered their first example of a German acoustically triggered mine for an examination, and this led to the launch of a very successful programme for the rapid development and implementation of countermeasures.
