Operation Almoner

'Almoner' was a British unrealised operation planned by the Special Operations Executive for a naval attack on the North Sea herring fleet operating out of the ports of German-occupied Norway (March 1941).

The plan was to attack the fleet working between Haugesund and Egersund in an undertaking for which SOE would provide Norwegian seamen to serve as armed guards. The British Chiefs-of-Staff approved the plan in principle, but by mid-March the plan had been cancelled at the request of the Norwegian government-in-exile.
