Operation Amsterdam (i)

'Amsterdam' (i) was a British naval undertaking in which the destroyer Walpole was sent to land a party in the Dutch coastal city of Amsterdam in order to collect a major quantity of industrial diamonds, of vital long-term importance to the UK’s war-making industries, before the Germans could take the city (12/13 May 1940).
