'Antwerp X' was an Allied defensive undertaking to ring the aerial approaches to liberated Antwerp, the major port on the coast of Belgium, with layers of fighter squadrons and anti-aircraft units to prevent the German attempt to destroy this port, which was vital to the nourishment of the Allied armies in North-West Europe, through the use of V-1 flying bombs (October/December 1944).
