'Baroness' was a British deception undertaking based on a supposed telegram from Anthony Eden, the British foreign secretary, to the British ambassador in Chungking, the capital of nationalist China, about the timing of 'Torch' and intended for 'leaking' to the Japanese, via a double agent, and thence the Germans (November 1942).
