Operation BD

'BD' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with an alphabetical and numerical suffix) plying the route from the White Sea to Dikson island in the Kara Sea, and as such reciprocals of the 'DB' series (summer 1941/autumn 1944).

Typical of the series were BD.1S4 of 21/24 September 1944 in which a British tanker was escorted from Iokanga to Dikson by the destroyers Dostoiny and Zhostky, and the fleet minesweepers T-111, T-117, T-119 and T-120, and BD.6S4 of 31 August/6 September 1944 in which four freighters and four transports were escorted from Arkhangyel’sk to Dikson by the destroyers Dostoiny and Zhostky, the fleet minesweepers T-111, T-117, T-119 and T-120, the submarine chaser BO-142, and the patrol vessels SKR-28 and SKR-29.
