'Beck' was British special forces operation by elements of the Special Air Service to sabotage the rail transport facilities around Grenoble in France, and thereby prevent the Germans from using this line to move troops and equipment to the north in the direction of the Allied 'Overlord' lodgement in Normandy (8 June 1944 onward).
