Operation Buttercup (iii)

'Buttercup' (iii) was a British special forces operation by Lieutenant Colonel W. Stirling’s 2nd Special Air Service on the Italian island of Lampedusa to acquire intelligence of the Italian defensive forces' strength and dispositions (May 1943).

The party was landed from the sea, but was able to achieve little before being evacuated in the same way.
