Operation BV

'BV' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Brisbane and nearby ports to Townsville on the eastern coast of Australia, and as such reciprocals of the 'VB' series (May/July 1943).

A typical late example was BV.73 of 30 June/3 July 1943 from Brisbane to Townsville with the 4,785-ton Norwegian Lidvard, 4,131-ton Dutch Maetsuycker, 10,191-ton Panamanian Ohio and 6,221-ton US Young America escorted by the Australian minesweepers Cootamundra and Fremantle.
