Operation Clowder

'Clowder' was an Allied attempt to establish contact with the forces of Marshal Josip Broz Tito in German-occupied Slovenia and gain their support for movement into Austria to establish whether or not there were the makings of a viable resistance movement that might be able to aid any British advance into Austria from Italy (6 December 1944/February 1945).

The British mission, organised by the Special Operations Executive and led by Peter Wilkinson and Major Afgar Hesketh-Pritchard, was delivered to Glamoč by a Douglas Dakota twin-engined transport aeroplane and met Tito, who authorised its movement to Slovenia en route to Austria.
