Operation Cringle

'Cringle' was the Allied basic plan by General Douglas MacArthur’s South-West Pacific Area command for the recapture of Mindanao island and the Visayan group in the Japanese-occupied Philippine islands group, Borneo and the Netherlands East Indies (summer 1943).

This basic scheme was then refined via 'Princeton' into the definitive 'Montclair', and was based on the employment of Lieutenant General Robert L. Eichelberger’s US 8th Army in its northern component (Philippine islands group) and Lieutenant General Sir Leslie Morshead’s Australian I Corps in its southern component (Borneo and the Netherlands East Indies).
