Operation Feuersee

sea of fire

'Feuersee' was the German plan for large-scale air attacks on British bomber streams returning from Germany (1943/45).

The plan was devised as a means of countering British electronic countermeasures, the German fighters concentrating off the English coast and then flying to the south-east so that they would inevitably intercept the lengthy bomber stream heading to the north-west before undertaking visual attacks.
