Operation Flimwell

'Flimwell' was a British unrealised plan for the amphibious seizure of Bassein in the south-west of the main body of Japanese-occupied Burma (spring 1945).

The plan was rendered superfluous by the successes of Lieutenant General Sir Philip Christison’s Indian XV Corps in the Arakan western coastal region and of Lieutenant General Sir Montagu Stopford’s Indian XXXIII Corps and Lieutenant Sir Frank Messervy’s Indian IV Corps in their advances down the Irrawaddy and Sittang rivers after the 'Battle of Meiktila' and 'Battle of Mandalay'.
