Operation Forelle (i)

'Forelle' (i) was a German pair of unrequired defensive plans for implementation in the event of any Allied landings in Greece, especially after the Allies' armistice with Italy, which had held Rhodes and the other islands of the Dodecanese group since 1912 (20 December 1943/spring 1944).

'Forelle I' was based on the assumption of a landing on Greece’s western coast on the Ionian Sea, and 'Forelle II' on the assumption of a landing on Greece’s eastern coast on the Aegean Sea.
