Operation FWL

'FWL' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from France to the Isle of Wight for the delivery back to the UK of landing craft used in 'Overlord' and now superfluous to requirement after the break-out from the Normandy lodgement and the advance to the north-east in the direction of north-eastern France and the Low Countries, and as such reciprocals of the 'WEL' series (summer/autumn 1944).

These 'France to the Isle of Wight Landing' convoys included FWL.67 of 24/25 August 1944 from the Seine Bay to Southampton with the 1,124-ton British Loma Novia, and FWL.75 of 1/2 September 1944 from the Seine Bay to Southampton with the 339-ton British Empire Snowdrop.
