Operation GH

'GH' was a British naval sweep against German shipping in the south-western part of the North Sea (8/9 September 1939).

The Humber Force’s light cruisers Glasgow and Southampton, supported by the destroyers Javelin, Jersey, Jervis and Jupiter, departed Rosyth to seek out and destroy German shipping bound from Rotterdam in the neutral Netherlands for the German port of Hamburg. The British ships made no contact, and arrived in the Humber estuary on 9 September.
