Operation Grunwald

(Polish village)

'Grunwald' was a Soviet special forces operation to parachute an 11-man party of the Polish Independent Special Battalion (Assault) into German-occupied Poland to aid in the establishment of the Grunwald Brigade (25 June 1944).

There were two follow-on drops in July to deliver 70 men of the Airborne Shock Brigade into the Nielce area and 11 men of the Independent Airborne Battalion into the Staszow area.
