Operation Hindenburg (ii)

'Hindenburg' (ii) was a German undertaking, initially known as 'Penna', by Generalleutnant Werner von Erdmannsdorff’s Gruppe 'von Erdmannsdorff' of General Christian Hansen’s X Corps intended to destroy the Soviet forces trapped in the area behind Generalfeldmarschall Ernst Busch’s 16th Army of Generalfeldmarschall Georg von Küchler’s Heeresgruppe 'Nord' in the area to the south of Staraya Russa (March/April 1943).
