'Hummel' was a German intelligence-gathering programme for 'Seelöwe' (July/August 1940).

For this task the Germans had to rely heavily on secondary sources such as guide books, handbooks, street plans by the Automobile Association, postcards, photographs and the reports of German pre-war visitors.
