Operation Juneau

'Juneau' was the US naval minesweeping operation off Okinawa after 'Iceberg' and in support of continuing operations (April/July 1945).

The undertaking lasted into the later part of 1945, and also involved the clearance of minefields in the East China Sea. The forces involved included a varying number of minesweepers, and in July 1945 Vice Admiral Jesse B. Oldendorf’s task force including three older battleships, two heavy cruisers (Chester and Salt Lake City), one light cruiser, four escort carriers (including Santee), 11 destroyers (including Brown, David W. Taylor and John D. Henley), and four destroyer escorts (including Foreman).
