'Karneval' (ii) was the German assassination, for 'high treason', of the mayor of Aachen, Franz Oppenhoff, who had been appointed by the US occupying forces on 31 October 1944, by the 'Werwolf' organisation with the support of the SS and the Luftwaffe (25 March 1945).
