Operation Katherina

Catherine

'Katherina' was a German unrealised plan for a naval minelaying operation off the north coast of the USSR (27/29 October 1943).

The operation was to have been undertaken by the destroyers Z 30, Z 31 and Z 33 of Kapitän Rolf Johannesson’s 4th Zerstörer-Flottille, but was cancelled after reconnaissance had revealed the presence in the Barents Sea of the numerous Allied warships escorting the RA.54 convoy.
