Operation Martha (ii)

'Martha' (ii) was German operation by General Anton-Reichard Freiherr von Mauchenheim und Bechtolsheims XXIX Corps, of General de armatâ Petre Dumitrescu’s Romanian 3rd Army, within Generaloberst Ferdinand Schörner’s (from 25 July Generaloberst Johannes Friessner’s) Heeresgruppe 'Südukraine', to pinch out the Soviet bridgehead across the Dniestr river in the area between Răscăeţi and Purcari in the north-western part of Romania and in the process to destroy the three Soviet divisions holding it (23 July 1944).
