Operation MF (ii)

'MF' (ii) was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Port Moresby to Milne Bay and Fall River, Papua, and as such reciprocals of the 'FM' series (December 1943/March 1944).

The first of these four convoys was MF.14 of of 9/10 December 1943 with two 7,176-ton US freighters in the form of David F. Barry and William S. Ladd. The second was MF.15 of 10/11 January 1944 and involved the 7,176-ton US Samuel Brannon and 4,887-ton US naval petrol tanker Shikellamy. The third was MF.16 of 9/10 February 1944 with two 7,176-ton US freighters in the form of Charles E. Smith and Malcolm M. Stewart. The fourth was MF.17 of 18/19 March 1944 with the 10,448 ton US tanker Oregon Trail and 4,887-ton US petrol tanker Shikellamy.
