Operation Murrayfield

'Murrayfield' was a British deception within 'Bertram' in the period leading to the 'Lightfoot' initial phase of the 2nd Battle of El Alamein (October 1942).

When two brigades of Major General R. Briggs’s British 1st Armoured Division and the entirety of Major General A. H. Gatehouse’s British 10th Armoured Brigade arrived from the south in a secret concentration into the north of Lieutenant General B. L. Montgomery’s British 8th Army, where the main thrust was to be made, the real and dummy vehicles they replaced were relocated to a position behind the centre of the 8th Army’s front in 'Murrayfield'.
