Operation OL

'OL' was the designation of Allied ocean outward convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Liverpool to the west for dispersal (September/October 1940).

These were fast convoys, and the series numbered only eight. The first was OL.1 of 14/19 September with an unspecified number of merchant vessels and escorts, and the last was OL.9 of 25/27 October with four British merchant vessels in the form of the 14,443-ton Avila Star, 11,660-ton Derbyshire, 10,926-ton Eastern Prince and 20,914-ton Maloja, the 11,136-ton armed merchant cruiser Cilicia, and three escorting warships in the form of the destroyers Shikari, Sturdy and Viscount.
