Operation Penknife

'Penknife' was an Allied deception operation associated with 'Goldflake' (February/March 1945).

The operation was designed to persuade the Germans that Lieutenant General C. Foulkes’s Canadian I Corps had been pulled out of the line in northern Italy to be regrouped before being passed into army group reserve, whereas it was in fact being readied for movement from Italy to the Western Front, where it was to become part of General H. D. G. Crerar’s Canadian 1st Army in the Netherlands and Germany.
