Operation QU

'QU' was a British programme of minelaying and anti-shipping operations by the motor gun boats, motor launches and motor torpedo boats of Admiral Sir George Lyon’s (from 7 July 1943 Admiral Sir John Tovey’s) Nore Command (5 November 1942/29 May 1944).

The undertaking reflected the extension of the Nore Command’s operational area eastward to the island of Texel, and involved the 51st Motor Launch Flotilla, the 21st and 22nd Motor Torpedo boat Flotillas, and the craft of several motor gun boat flotillas. These small craft undertook 36 minelaying operations in areas including those off IJmuiden, Texel, Scheveningen, Egmond, Hoek van Holland and the Scheldt river estuary.
