'Ranger' was the British overall designation for any low-level fighter-bomber sweep to a depth of 50 miles (80 km) or more over occupied Europe against German targets of opportunity (1941/May 1945).

The primary object of any 'Ranger' mission was to draw German fighters into combat and thereby degrade German fighter strength and thus to impose greater demands on German industry for the delivery of replacements.
