Operation Schneeman

'Schneeman' was a German largely unrealised plan to open a second front in the Netherlands, within the context of 'Wacht am Rhein', to outflank the Allied forces advancing into Germany (1/8 January 1945).

In this very limited effort, the Germans seized a small bridgehead across the Maas river at Wanssum to the north of Venlo, but this was destroyed by a counterattack by a unit of Major General A. Galloway’s British 3rd Division on 8 January.
