Operation Smolensk

(Russian city)

'Smolensk' was a German special forces operation by the Abwehr’s Abteilung II intelligence, reconnaissance and sabotage branch to pass through the Eastern Front in the area of Smolensk and spread out into a semi-circle to disrupt the area’s railway network and so disrupt the preparations for the major Soviet attack that the Germans expected on Smolensk (October 1942).
