'Sonnenschein' was the German withdrawal, in the face of continued Soviet pressure, of part of the forces of Generalfeldmarschall Ferdinand Schörner’s Heeresgruppe 'Nord' from the 'Aa-Stellung' to the north-east of Riga in Latvia south-westward into the 'Tukums-Stellung' to the south-west of Riga (15/17 October 1944).
