'Taper' was the Allied cover plan for 'Varsity' (March 1945).

The plan was based on the 'story' which promulgated the fictitious idea that the Allies intended to undertake an airborne landing not at the operational level in direct support of the 'Plunder' crossing of the Rhine river in the area of Wesel, and thus to the north of the Ruhr industrial area, but at a smaller tactical level to its south in the area just to the north of Köln.
