Operation Taxi

'Taxi' was the British unrequired plan for the defence of the oilfields and associated installations in the area round the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, which could have been threatened by a land advance by the Iraqi 2nd Division from Kirkuk and the bombers of Oberst Werner Junck’s Sonderkommando 'Junck', which the Germans had despatched to Mosul via bases in Vichy French-held Syria (April/May 1941).
