Operation VK

'VK' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Sydney, Australia, to Wellington or Auckland, New Zealand, or Nouméa, New Caledonia (December 1940/May 1943).

The first of these nine convoys was VK.1 of 30 December 1940/3 January 1941 with the 13,479-ton British Empire Star, 16,810-ton British Empress of Russia, 7,527-ton New Zealand Maunganui and 8,535-ton British Port Chalmers, and the last was VK.9 of 23/25 May 1943 with three French vessels in the form of Cap Tarifa, 2,018-ton Capitaine Illiaquer and Polynesien.
