Operation Westfalen

Westphalia

'Westfsalen' was a German naval diversionary undertaking, in tandem with 'Ostpreussen', to support 'Beowulf II' (12/13 October 1941).

The light cruiser Köln, torpedo boats T 2, T 5, T 7 and T 8, and seven minesweepers of Fregattenkapitän Karl Bergelt’s 1st Minensuch-Flottille and Korvettenkapitän Walter Berger’s 4th Minensuch-Flottille undertook a gunfire bombardment of the Soviet positions on Cape Ristna on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa (Dagö in German) in the mouth of the Gulf of Riga.
