'Xenophon' was a German special forces undertaking by the 800^th Küstenjägerabteilung of Oberstleutnant Paul Haehling von Lanzenauer’s Lehr-Regiment 'Brandenburg' zbV 800 to create the operational conditions deemed desirable before the movement of German and Romanian units of Generalfeldmarschall Erich von Manstein’s 11^th Army of Generalfeldmarschall Wilhelm List Heeresgruppe 'A' from Crimea across the Strait of Kerch to the Taman peninsula in 'Blücher II' (July 1942).
