This was a Soviet one-man demolition attack against a shale oil facility in German-occupied Estonia (24 October 1942).

Shale oil was a fuel resource on which Germany became increasingly reliant as the tide of the war turned against it and it therefore lost more important sources such as the oilfields of Romania and Hungary.
