Operation Character

'Character' was a British generic type of undertaking by Force 136 of the Special Operations Executive in Burma, analogous to the 'Jedburgh' undertakings in North-West Europe, to raise Karen hill tribe levies for the task of harassing and cutting the lines of communication essential to the operations and indeed the continued existence of Lieutenant General Masaki Honda’s 33rd Army retreating to the south along the valley of the Sittang river (April/June 1945).
