Operation Dovetail

'Dovetail' was a US naval and marine training exercise in the Fiji islands group to rehearse the assault landing required for the initial implementation of 'Watchtower', which was scheduled as the US forces' first amphibious assault operation of World War II (July 1942).

'Dovetail' was very useful in revealing a number of logistical and tactical problems which were overcome before 'Watchtower'.
