'Gondolier' was a British special forces operation by the Special Air Service to sabotage the railway lines in the Massif Central along which the Germans might move men and equipment from the south of France to tackle the Allied 'Neptune' (iii) beach-heads and subsequent 'Overlord' logement in Normandy (6 June 1944).
