'Mattscheibe' was a German aerial night-fighting technique used against the night bombers of Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris’s RAF Bomber Command in the 'Helle Nachtjagd' system, in which the target bombers were discerned optically as searchlight-illuminated silhouettes by the pilots of night-fighters patrolling above them (1943).
