Operation Roundabout (i)

'Roundabout' (i) was a British special forces operation against the Stad peninsula in German-occupied Norway (23 March 1943).

The party was commanded by Captain Gilchrist of No. 12 Commando and included two men from the same unit, as well as an officer and four men of the US 29th Ranger Battalion and four Norwegian soldiers. The raid’s objective was the destruction of a bridge over a fjord, but was unsuccessful after one of the Norwegians dropped the magazine for his weapon, the noise alerting the German guards.
