Operation SG (ii)

'SG' (ii) was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical and sometimes a literal suffix) plying the route from Sydney (later St John’s), Newfoundland to Greenland, and as such reciprocals of the 'GS' (i) series (July 1942/March 1945).

The first of these 61 convoys was SG.1 of 6 July 1942 with three Panamanian vessels, the 2,289-ton Aristides, 2,114-ton Omaha and 1,516-ton Pillory. The last of the convoys was SG.60 of 27 February/4 March 1945 with the 5,450-ton US Kaweah and 962-ton Danish Linda.
