Operation Cactus (ii)

'Cactus' (ii) was a British naval undertaking to relieve Royal Marine units during the assault of Cheduba island, near Ramree island in the Arakan western coastal region of Japanese-occupied Burma, during 'Sankey' (30 January 1945).

'Sankey' landed Force 'Wellington' (Royal Marines from the ships of Vice Admiral Sir Arthur Power’s East Indies Fleet), covered by the naval forces of Rear Admiral A. D. Read’s Force 65 on Cheduba island on 26 January, and the marines occupied the island without resistance before being replaced by a battalion group of Brigadier J. F. R. Forman’s Indian 4th Brigade of Major General C. E. N. Lomax’s Indian 26th Division.
