Operation Canwell

'Canwell' was a British radio deception operation, in tandem with 'Bertram', to help conceal the movement of Lieutenant General H. Lumsden’s X Corps into its staging area before the 'Lightfoot' first stage of the '2nd Battle of El Alamein' to be fought by Lieutenant General B. L. Montgomery’s 8th Army (October 1942).

Lasting four weeks, 'Canwell' simulated the radio net of Major General A. H. Gatehouse’s 10th Armoured Division to suggest that this formation, a major element of the X Corps, had not moved.
