Operation Claw

'Claw' was a British deception undertaking to suggest an amphibious assault on Moulmein, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Martaban and thus at the head of the long and narrow 'appendix' of Burma extending as far to the south of the Kra isthmus (1945).

Part of 'Stultify', which was the cover plan for the 'Extended Capital' advance on Rangoon, 'Claw' threatened the Japanese main overland lines of communication from Thailand, and at the same time by implication reduced the British threat to Rangoon, farther to the west.
