'Montagnards' was a French resistance operation to establish a base in the Vercors massif (July 1944).

The base area was established by some 4,000 maquisards under the leadership of François Huet early in July 1944 as the République Libre de Vercors, but was destroyed in less than one month in 'Vercors' by a force of some 20,000 Germans spearheaded by Generalleutnant Karl Pflaum’s 157th Reserve-Division, and supplemented by 500 Vichy French collaborators of the Milice Française.
